A Railroad Foreman turns the project plan into productive field work.
Responsibilities may include:
A good Foreman does more than tell people what to do. They give the crew a clear plan, set expectations, solve problems, and lead from the field.
The crew watches its leadership.
Foremen help establish expectations for job briefings, PPE, hazard recognition, equipment movement, crew communication, and changing jobsite conditions.
Safety culture is not something that stays in a binder. The crew sees it in the way the job is planned and led.
A Railroad Foreman and a Roadway Worker in Charge are not automatically the same role. A qualified Foreman may also serve as the RWIC when assigned, but the required training and qualifications must be in place.

Railroad crews may include longtime employees, experienced Equipment Operators, and new Track Laborers.
