At Capital Railroad Contracting, our Jack and Bore services deliver a safe, efficient, and low-disruption solution for installing underground utilities and culverts beneath existing railroad tracks. Supported by specialized hydraulic jacking systems and advanced auger tooling, our experienced crews execute every bore with precision, safety, and compliance.
Jack and Bore (also known as jack-and-bore tunneling or auger boring) is a trenchless construction method that allows the installation of permanent steel casings under railroad tracks without disturbing the surface or compromising track stability. This method is especially valuable when traditional trenching or directional drilling is not feasible.
The process begins with the excavation of a bore pit on one side of the track. From this pit, our crews align and position a steel casing that will be jacked horizontally beneath the tracks. Using our high-pressure hydraulic jacking system, the casing is pushed—or “jacked”—toward the receiving pit while a rotating auger system removes soil, rock, and debris.
Once the steel casing is fully installed:
Jack and Bore services provide an ideal solution for railroad environments where surface disruption must be minimized. This method is especially effective when:
By choosing Jack and Bore installation, rail owners ensure a safe, durable, and long-term solution for underground utility placement and drainage systems—without interrupting railroad operations.
Our team combines technical expertise, specialized equipment, and years of railroad construction experience. Every Jack and Bore project is completed with:
